Farsund harbour

Welcome to one of Norway’s southernmost harbours!

Some 11,000 years ago, as the glacier retreated along the coast, migrating people gradually settled in the area. Where the busy port of today is located, archeologists have unearthed amazing artefacts from beyond the ocean, showing the importance of this trading post and its harbour through the ages.

Close to the fjord where today’s port is located, you will find many reminders of the Vikings, such as Viking graves and even an estate of a local Viking king. The estate was changed into a monastery as Christianity was brought to Norway and is now in private hands.

Today, the Farsund Port is ranked as the world’s largest seismic port. One of the earliest trading posts in Norway has certainly developed up through history!
